Sickness, Craft Projects and Blueberries... Oh My!

Eek! I have not written in a long while!
Our whole family got a stomach bug last week so we are now recovered and almost completely. :) In a big family sickness can hit hard on our schedule. Catching up on laundry, cleaning and gardening is a bit time consuming.

The weather has been almost unbearable this week. Very hot... well to what we are use to at least. Even through our sick week I was able to get my knitted purse done. (Yeah!)
                                             The purse!
Also I have been trying to finish a project I started I long while ago and haven't really been working on. Remember that doll I was planning on making? I never finished. Only started it. Now I am finally getting around to finishing it. I have the body done except for the head. That is the hardest part of a doll, because it is a big part of her personality. ( Especially her face.) I will hopefully show a picture of her as soon as I make her a head and clothes. Not sure when that will be. :)

The book I have been using.

 And....
I am participating in Eden's Friendship Afghan Project! You can read up on it here!

I will be getting some yarn and knitting some squares for the quilt soon!!! I am looking forward to it. :D
I got two knitting books today, so that I can practice different patterns for each square. :D

We enjoyed going to our church's picnic on Sunday. Some of our friends kindly took us girls, because daddy was sick at that time. Maggie and I had fun whipping up some blueberry cobbler Tuesday. Abby, Maggie, Joe, and I picked some of our own blueberries from the garden Tuesday morning. Such fun!

Although we haven't been up to that much, I hope you all have been enjoying the warm weather!

What have you all been up to? :-D

Busy Hands

Whoosh! Another week gone by. Thursday, here once again. My mom, sisters and I have been trying to get our schedule a bit more organized and focused more on the important things in our day. So, I haven't had as much time as I have wanted for blogging. Today I had more time on my hands. So, I am posting. I have several projects I have been working on lately. Mostly involving knitting. Some sketching, knitting, and sewing.

I am working on knitting a blanket, a scarf, and hopefully soon this hat. :)
I finished a dishcloth yesterday for my mom and have been knitting a lot.
Lately I have been in a knitting mood.
I hope to sew a skirt this Saturday as well. I have the fabric and I am looking forward to start sewing it.

I have been sketching a lot lately as well. I bought a sketching notebook on my birthday and I have been using it a lot. I also have some new Faber-castell pens. I love them!
The picture above is a sketch of my baby brother John. I am planning on doing another one of him by copying a photo him. I have not yet found the right picture to copy yet. :)
Here is a paper doll that I am making. I have yet to make clothes for her now.

I don't make pictures of men very often but I thought I would try. I saw this guy in a magazine and I decided to try and copy him. I don't think I did justice to what he really looks like. :)

I made her while watching the Emma movie on my birthday.

I am making a book just for Sam and Joe. This is one of the first pictures in the book. Joe on the right and Sam on the left. This is them getting dressed in the morning. It's not done yet for sure.

I hope you all are doing great!

I just thought I'd share all of this with you all. I have not forgotten my little blog, I have just been quite busy. :) I have two posts in mind which I will try to get written and posted next week, I hope. :)

Have a great Thursday!!!

Valentine knitted hearts

Here are some valentines that I am making. I decided to make knitted hearts this year and I will try and explain to you how I made them. I am not very good at explaining while knitting. So bear with me. :)

You will need yarn and three needles. Preferable all the same size. I used a number 4 needle.

Make a slip knot and stitch one. After each row increase one until you get to your seventh row. Knit two rows. Than keep increasing one each row, to row nine. Stitch two rows on row nine. Increase again on row ten.

Knit five stitches on each needle. Grab a spare needle and start knitting with five stitches.
Now with each row decrease one, until you are down to one stitch. Now cast off.
With your other five stitches place your other needle into the stitch. Like up top.

Now begin to knit with your skein once more by, placing it in between your two needles.

Stitch like normally, being careful not to lose your yarn. Now decrease each row like the other side, and cast off when you have one stitch left on your needle.
And your done! There are different ways of doing it but that is how I have been making mine.
I decorated with glitter, beads, ribbon, and knitting with two types of yarn.
Here are a couple of the ones I have made with different yarns.
With these two hearts, I used an embroidery needle and threaded the ribbon on to it.

Enjoy experimenting with this pattern. :)

It snowed from about 3:00 to 8:00 pm yesterday and left about 2 inches on the ground. :) Abby, Maggie, Sam and Joe. Went outside and played in it yesterday along with our neighbor. With her yard's snow and ours they had a good time.

The snow also canceled the Daddy Daughter Dance. But they're re-scheduling it soon. :)

Today I was able to play in the snow, too. With the left over snow we made a huge snow man/ woman. Which is about 5 foot 2 inches tall.

I am feeling a lot better than yesterday and still don't have a good appetite. This sickness has definitely opened my eyes to how blessed I am with good health so often.

My Daddy and John are both sick now too. :( John is still in wonderful spirits. He is getting better though. I keep praying that Sam, Joe and our Mom don't get it.
