9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
1 Timothy 2:9-10
Modesty to me is very important as we are living out a Christian example, in the way that it shows every one around us what Christ stands for. As we go through our activities Speaking to others and going through our lives as a Christian. There are two points that I have on modesty. Inwardly and Outwardly.
As we think, our minds should be focusing on modest and pure thoughts. We should strive for thoughts which are pure and good in the sight of the Lord. We should refrain from boasting, pridefulness and praising ourselves even inwardly.
With outward modesty I have three helpful ways in which keep our perspective on how to glorify God in our dress.
1. How much we cover. In what ever we wear we need to be aware if it is modest.
Does it reveal a lot of my skin in which I know God would not like? Does it hinder the people around me as they try to shield there eyes from nakedness? Is it revealing or showy? Does it give the wrong message to every one around me?Another test is to think: would my father agree with my clothing? When we dress ourselves we need to be asking these questions. We need to be aware of what is not modest and what is. Especially in the world today.
2. We also need to think about how tight our clothing is. Skin tight, I would not consider modest for it shows every curve of your body which may again give the wrong message. But we don't want our clothing to be so loose that it is frumpy and baggy and not at all feminine, which gets me to my last point.
3. In society today, we see men and women becoming more and more alike in actions, roles, and in clothing. As we strive for biblical lives we need to realize that God made Men and Women different in there roles and I think that this also means in the way we dress. We should dress like women in a sense of feminine clothing. But this does not mean we have to reveal and show off our form. In lovely and pretty clothing we should think on how it pleases God in not only modesty but as we are striving to be biblical women.
What blessing it is that God does not have strict and detailed rule on modest. He left it up to our responsibility. He has given us an important job and is counting on us as christians to keep His word.
Blessings to you all! It is another sunny day in Georgia!
My thoughts on modesty are not perfect and it is hard to express a lot of my opinoins. Do you have any rules that help you stay modest and feminine? I'd love to here from you! :)
Another good question: is my dress drawing more attention to myself or to Christ? Even Jeramy will use this as a guideline for dressing to preach - nothing should distract from the Message.
ReplyDeleteYes! That is definitely a good one!
