I know I am not the only one out there, though oftentimes it seems like it...
I find that it's very difficult to find a decent swim suit. ( And might I say the cost is ridiculous!)
Do you have the same problem? Although I don't go swimming that often, I do find it frustrating seeing how the culture handles swimming apparel. Many prefer to swim around the pool wearing the latest colored underwear... :-P
I thought I'd share a few helpful links and ideas to dress modestly for the glory of God even at the pool.
Here are some options I've tried and discovered. Click the links to the websites. All photos are from their websites.
They have a selection of swim suits, rash guards and swim skirts.

They have a selection of swim suits.
I have bought a swim dress from them and it has held up very well. It's well made and comfortable.

They have a selection of clothes as well as swim wear, swim skirts, swim shirts, and swim skorts.
Their swim skirts are about the same price as land's end's skirt, but are a quite a bit longer with leggings sewn in.
They sell swim suits, leggings, swim suit patterns, and swim fabric.
{via}I bought a swim dress and leggings from here. They were well made, but the fabric hasn't been as durable as others.
Olivia sells a very pretty, stylish swim suit pattern. I haven't used her pattern before, but it looks very nice.
These are just a few ideas and I am sure there are other solutions, depending on how much you prefer covering. I am not judging any one for what they swim in, but I hope that we'll all consider what we wear for the glory of God.
Do you have any suggestions on where to find or make a swim suit?... :-)
When I was younger and had worldly friends, finding a swimsuit was hard for me. My parents told me to find something modest, but my friends were giving me opposite advise. So I compromised with a one piece.
ReplyDeleteBut now that I have gotten older and am grounded in my modest convictions. I wear a bikini under a (dark colored)tshirt and board shorts. It's comfortable, modest and cute at the same time. :) Not to mention affordable. ;)
Those swim suits from Fresh Modesty look really adorable too. :)
Have a wonderful day! xxxx~Kelsey
Thanks for this post, Leah!
ReplyDeleteWe don't go swimming much, but I agree that it is so hard to find modest swim wear! We usually buy from Land's End (rash guards and board shorts work well!), though we have found that it's harder to find modest styles for me there as I get older. This year we found a little bit cheaper alternative for my swim wear. We went to Target and bought exercise shorts and a workout shirt (both of which were a quick drying material), and the cost totaled less than $20. I can then wear that over a swimsuit. Many stores carry workout tank tops, shirts, and shorts, and you can usually find them at a pretty reasonable price. Many of the styles are also pretty modest, and are made of the same quick drying material that swim wear is made of.
It's always nice to know that there are other girls out there that are seeking to dress modestly!!

What a lovely post, confronting an issue that is greatly visible in our day and age. It is indeed a challenge to find modest swimwear. What I have done is purchase a modest one piece and also comfortable knee-length board short and wear a comfortable swim shirt on top. It is inexspensive and very easy to make up.
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful to see more young ladies take a stand for purity!
Many Blessings,

Thank you all so much for sharing your solutions.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas!
Your ideas sound very reasonably priced, very creative and modest!
Thanks again to you all!
Blessings,
Leah
I do thank you for talking about the issue. That is also important for me as a Muslim woman who does not wear the veil.. not wanting to conform to the strict eatern culture, nor the materialistic western one. Thank you.
